LET’S PROMOTE

Another beautiful Sunday morning, up early at 4:30 to prepare for my day. The Starbucks express fine brew coffee wakes me up as I pray for the 2,600 children we promoted this week. Needless to say, the teachers are ready for the new children to step into their classroom excited to learn. After reading from the book of Romans,  I stumble out of my office to indulge in another large cup of coffee which is calling me. Shower, dress and off I head south for the 15 minutes drive to the most amazing church in the country.

Arriving so early, to inspect, and make sure all is in place. The computer program is working well, no glitches this morning, thank you, Lord! The most perfect promotion– seamless, teachers are prepared, parents are eager to meet their child’s new teacher. Today  I realized that we had close to 1,000 in our children’s area (K-5th), over 50 classes and two large Kids Worship Service. The teachers are powerful warriors, committed to communicate, prepare, and minister to the children who need the love of God revealed to them. The preciousness of the children has to be the greatest mission field revealed to the church. Transitions were hard especially for a an autistic boy who refused to go to class. He insisted on going back to his teacher. Oh, how the special needs children and families need our love, compassion, and grace. Those sweet kindergartens that eagerly await to come upstairs to the Children’s area; with smiling faces, happy feet, and a zeal to learn.

They are the future of the church! This is a glimpse of my Sunday morning! Off, to worship! Going over Staying… the heart of missions is revealed in a church that prioritizes the least of these in a foreign land. the local church, local missions, serving on Sunday is a part of the great commission.

Oh, the most important thing is that I have been married for forty years today!

MY MAN

Forty years ago today, August 13, I married the most remarkable man who loves, serves, and cares for me. Our first date was in the Colorado Rockies, where we quickly realized that we had similar experiences as Outward Bound participants.  The ability to survive, rock climb, cook on the open fire, to hike 10 miles a day in tough terrain, which included being balayed to avoid avalanches in snowy conditions, nearly broke us. The rigorous survival course brings comradery to those who participated in this 6-week adventure.  So, from there, I  would say my life with “my man” has been a real adventure. Living in seven states, mostly as a Marriott wife, until we landed in Florida and knew our children would not be willing to continually move every two years to LAX or Hong Kong (which was offered as the next stop on our journey.) Well, from Colorado Rockies to California, to New York, Oregon, to Atlanta, Orlando, then to Tampa our adventures have allowed us to see the mighty hand of God. Well, our first adventure really was on our honeymoon when we travel around the USA for three months visiting, sights, family, friends, and colleges. When we arrived in Miami, my persuasive mother in law finagled a last minute 4-day cruise out of Miami. What a blast! Well, back on the road we camped in the Appalachians, hit the lights of New York, plays, and outstanding dinners. Then, My Man wanted to attend the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, New York. So we made a visit and found they had a two-year waiting list unless you lived in the area.  Well, adventurous kids, we headed back to California and picked up our Bronco and headed back out to the East coast! This is how we started our lives out together! I’m indeed a very blessed woman to love life to the fullest as I appreciate the mighty hand of God: along with His great love for us.

VBS 2020

Well, for the last 20 years I’ve watched a really amazing work happen in the church. That’s mobilizing members for ministry and placing each person in the place they love to serve. VBS planning and preparation begins early December. The preparation is constant with a massive detailed  project management task list that allows different groups and coordinators to assess their area. The process of planning is the same every year, however, the theme changes and therefore all content must change. Leadership is critical as you plan to train the multitudes effectively with intentionality. Wow! I do believe I’m going to miss this, however, know I’ve trained and equipped our team to continue reaching generations for Christ.

High-Performance Teams

A thriving organizational leadership team recognizes that building teams and unifying each team member based on gifts, passions, and talents. Leading to the next level takes focus, creativity, and TIME. The building of teams is what propels kingdom work which allows great collaboration and empowerment to those it leads. When I first joined the staff at our church I found five prayer warriors who could pray, serve, and help me lead the ministry. I invested heavily in their lives, we championed ministry together. Basically, throughout the investment of time, the common purpose of reaching children for Christ was at the forefront of our ministry to the Lord. The teams were established slowly, prayerfully, strategic and with the Holy Spirit leading every step of the way. Prayerfully, carefully, ministering to the multitudes and using our gifts, recognizing the gifts in others and mobilizing them for ministry. Leadership development has been a big part of the Children’s Ministry from the beginning. Needless, did I know how the Lord was going to mobilize the church, however, he did in a magnificent way that the orchestra plays beautifully when everyone is in their gifted area. I prayed for the greatest warriors to join the team and then asked them. In the digital world in which we live the mobilization of the ministry team and strategic planning can be viewed by all.

I am so thankful, grateful and blessed to be a part of a local community of believers that share common beliefs around the world. I’m thankful that I’ve had close to 29 years faithfully serving at the same church. I’m excited about the new transition and the calmer pace in my life, more time to engage with my family and friends. And to start new hobbies while still be the same committed faithful follower. I’m thankful for amazing people that I’ve met on this journey some of the greatest warriors some of the greatest men and women that you’ll be meet in Tampa. What’s amazing is the passion, zeal and commitment that each of them have to their church. The great news is I’ll still be at the same church loving people, families, and children. God is good and takes good care of His children. After all we are children of God.
